As we told you last night, Blumhouse, Miramax, and Trancas International Films are partnering to produce the next installment in the Halloween franchise. This latest turn of events comes following the news that Dimension has lost the rights to the series.
But what we didn’t know last night was who was set to helm the next installment. Well, today BD is reporting that multiple sources have revealed to them that Mike Flanagan (Oculus) is in negotiations to helm the project. If this proves to be accurate, it’s safe to say the project is in good hands. Flanagan has proven himself a master of suspense with his latest, Hush. And he is at a great point in his career, still fresh enough to deliver new ideas but experienced enough not to fall flat on his face.
What we know so far is that John Carpenter is on board to not only executive produce but also to score the upcoming latest installment.
Prior to losing the rights, Dimension was in development in a new Halloween film with Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. Halloween 3D was reportedly set to pick up after the events of the second film and would not tie in to Rob Zombie’s reboots. It’s unclear where this new incarnation will take the action but we will keep you apprised as we learn more.
