Big news for a project that seemed to be up in the air at best: The sequel to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters has landed a director. The first film took in $226 million at the global box office, so a sequel seemed like an inevitability. But after Tommy Wirkola revealed that he would not be returning for the second installment, things seemed to fizzle and it became questionable if a sequel would ever happen. Well, it’s definitely happening and we have just learned that French director Bruno Aveillan will be at the helm.
According to Tracking Board, Paramount is also looking for a scribe to rewrite the script penned by Wirkola as they are reportedly trying to pump a little more excitement into the franchise.
The first film follows adult versions of Hansel and Gretel from the beloved fairy tale as they work to eradicate the world of witches. It stars Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner who are both expected to be on board for the sequel.
No word just yet on plot details, a targeted release date, or anything of that nature but we will keep you in the loop as soon as we know more!
