News has broken that a US remake to Pascal Laugier‘s Martyrs was definitely in the works. Buzz has been circulating around the film being remade for years but every other time it has turned out to be a false start, unsubstantiated rumors, or both. Bloody Disgusting recently broke the news that a remake was in development. Unlike previous reports, this time we have a good deal of seemingly credible evidence to go along with the announcement. In fact, the site is reporting that the film has already been shot.
The remake is directed by The Goetz Brothers (Scenic Route) and produced by Blumhouse and The Safran Company. Mark L. Smith (Vacancy) wrote the script. It was apparently a reader that tipped the site off that the film has been completed but we do have a sales poster (pictured below) and quite a bit of supporting info to back up the reader’s claim.
Reportedly, the cast consists of Bailey Noble from True Blood and Troian Bellisario of Pretty Little Liars. Kate Burton (Big Trouble in Little China) and Blake Robbins (Rubber) also said to be starring in the remake.
Martyrs tells the story of Lucie, a young girl who was beaten and tortured by a sadistic family years prior. Lucie and her friend set out to track down the family years later. The pair exacts brutal revenge but things take a turn for the bizarre and they wind up martyrs in the process of seeking retribution.
