Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside) helm this entry in the rebooted franchise. The script was penned by Seth M. Sherwood. The film is expected to see release later this year but an exact release date has not yet been announced.
The film will tell the story of Leatherface as a teenager in the early ’70s. The latest installment is being housed at Millennium, the outfit that released the last installment in the series, Texas Chainsaw 3D. Texas Chainsaw 3D ignored the timeline established by the first film (which it was pitched as a direct sequel to) by setting it in the present but portraying its lead as much younger than she actually would have been. Now we will be seeing another film that further confuses the already questionable timeline. Since Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre saw Leatherface as an adult in the early 1970s, it seems awfully strange to set the film in that very same timeframe and portray the character as a teen.
