The rumored plot details for the upcoming Terminator: Genesis suggest that Arnold Schwarzenegger will once again star as a Terminator sent back in time to protect a young Sarah Connor. The film is reportedly going to go as far back as 1984 when the original picture took place. It has been suggested that Terminator: Genesis will bounce between the events of the first two films and to other time periods that are important to the chronology of the series. Some of the scenes in this fifth installment may unfold differently than the way they did in the previous films, however.
The script for Terminator: Genesis will be penned by Patrick Lussier (Drive Angry) and Laeta Kalogridis (Night Watch). Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) will be at the helm. Taylor has primarily worked in television until recently, so I am curious to see where his directorial aesthetic takes this fifth installment.
From the sound of it, this sequel will very likely further complicate the already inconsistent timeline of the Terminator franchise. And it may even function something like a reboot for at least a portion of the film’s running time. However, most of the information that is currently available on the film at this point is speculation and hearsay. Very little official information is available about Terminator: Genesis. I am anxiously anticipating this installment. And I very much look forward to seeing where Lussier and Kalogridis take the series with their screenplay. I am also curious as to how Taylor will adapt to taking over a very well established series. The film is reported to be in production at the time of this post. It is currently slated for release in July of 2015.
