Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, aka The Vicious Brothers, beam down an alien conspiracy with their latest sci-fi horror, Extraterrestrial.

Extraterrestrial revolves around April (Brittany Allen- Dead Before Dawn 3D), who is about to go away with her boyfriend, Kyle (Freddie Stroma- The Inbetweeners 2, Pitch Perfect) to a remote cabin in the woods that is owned by her parents. Her parents recently divorced, so this will be the last time she can spend her summer vacation in the cabin before it is sold. She plans to spend some romantic time with her boyfriend and talk about future plans, but unfortunately Kyle told a few friends about the cabin, and they promptly invite themselves to join the party.

The friends include her cousin Melanie (Melanie Papalia- The Den), attention-seeking Seth (Jesse Moss-Tucker & Dale Vs Evil), and Seth’s new squeeze, Lex (Anja Savcic- Repeaters). When Seth lets off a rocket as they arrive in town, the gang is confronted by Sheriff Murphy (Gil Bellows- The House at the End of The Street), who warns the kids not to cause any trouble because weird things have been happening in the area.

When the group reach the cabin, all of them pretty much do exactly what you might expect them to do – have fun while they party and use their handy camcorder to record all of their shenanigans. Before long they witness a UFO crash and find themselves the targets of alien abductors. The friends seek help from April’s fathers friend Travis (Michael Ironside – The Machinist), who as his own theories as to what is happening, and Sheriff Murphy who is starting to believe his wife may have been taken in the same way.

Brittany Allen as April stands out from the crowd with her performance. Her character was likable, plucky and engaging. The rest of the cast do well in their roles and while there were no real stinkers here, Jesse Moss’ character (Seth) is annoying to a fault, and Sean Rogerson as Deputy Mitchell wasn’t the most believable cop.

Extraterrestrial doesn’t provide anything new or original but I still kinda liked it. The main problem I had was the design of the aliens. At times when they aren’t so visible they work well, but up-close they look like cheap rubber masks.

The ending was predictable but then a lot of horror movies are. It’s enjoyable enough and I would still recommend Extraterrestrial for a rental night in.
