I woke up to a press release from the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department this morning and it was filled with all sorts of interesting information regarding the latest installment in the Children of the Corn franchise. While, it didn’t actually confirm that the film is part of the Children of the Corn cannon, it did provide additional plot details and offer clarification on who will be at the helm. The last round of updates we posted suggested that Alex Lehmann (Camera operator on Feast II and Feast III) would be directing but according to the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, it will be John Gulager (Feast, Piranha 3DD) who will be at the helm. Joel Soisson (Children of the Corn: Genesis) penned the screenplay.
The project is currently lensing In Oklahoma City and filming is set to conclude April 2nd. The production will be taking advantage of the Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate.
The plot crunch from the press release reads as follows: “Runaway tells the story of a young woman named Ruth, who finds herself pregnant after escaping a murderous child cult in a small Midwestern town. Ruth struggles to spare her son the horrors of her childhood while trying to outrun her past.”
No casting news at this juncture but know that we will keep you in the loop when we learn more about this new development.
The original Children of the Corn film followed a cult of killer kids that worshiped at the foot of He Who Walks Behind the Rows. Linda Hamilton and Peter Horton starred.
