The upcoming prequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has cast another lead in the form of one of the stars of James Wan’s The Conjuring. According to a Deadline article divulging which pictures Nu Image will be bringing to the Cannes Market, Lili Taylor (The Conjuring) is the latest addition to the cast. The film will also star James Bloor Sam Strike, Stephen Dorff, and Angela Bettis.

Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside) helm this entry in the rebooted franchise. The script was penned by Seth M. Sherwood. Production will reportedly begin later this month in Bulgaria.

The film will tell the story of Leatherface as a teenager in the early ’70s. The latest installment is being housed at Millennium, the outfit that released the latest installment in the series, Texas Chainsaw 3D. Texas Chainsaw 3D blatantly ignored the timeline established by the first film (which it claimed to be a direct sequel to) by setting it in the present but portraying its lead as way younger than she should have actually been. And now we will be seeing another film that further confuses the already questionable series of events. Since Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre saw Leatherface as an adult in the early 1970s, it seems unnecessarily complicated to set the film in that very same timeframe and portray the character as a teen.
