Ju-On and Ringu are two of the most successful and well known J-Horror features ever released. Both films have seen a barrage of sequels and been remade for American audiences, with each remake spawning a series of stateside follow up efforts. Wicked Horror has just learned that the two franchises will be coming together for a showdown in the vein of Freddy vs. Jason or Alien vs. Predator. The joining of the franchises will be released under the title Sadako vs Kayako.
Worthy of mention is the fact that the film is kicking it old school with a worn out VHS tape still serving as Sadako’s portal into the lives of unsuspecting victims. I would have expected that someone might have converted the tape to a viral video by now. But that does not seem to be the case.
The film will hit theaters in Japan this Summer, as it is planned for a June 18th release. No word just yet on when it will be available to US audiences. But you can check out the trailer in the player below right now. The teaser does not feature any subtitles, so it’s a bit difficult to tell what the hell is going on. However, it’s still atmospheric and spooky.
