What’s Going on With Turkish Horror Film Magi?

The Turkish horror film Magi was generating some positive buzz off of the film’s initial release in the director’s native Turkey. However, we haven’t heard much about it since the trailer dropped, which has us wondering: What’s going on with Magi? Head inside for the latest on the film, a look at the trailer, and a glimpse at two stills from the pic!

The project is directed by Turkish director Hasan Karacadag. Karacadag also penned the film’s screenplay. This marks his English language film debut. The flick has already been drawing comparison to the aesthetic of J-Horror films like Ringu. The picture stars Michael Madsen, Stephen Baldwin, Brianne Davis, Dragan Micanovic, Lucie Pohl, Kenan Ece and Emine Meyrem.

A trailer was released in November but it’s been been eight months since then and we actually haven’t heard much about the project since, which makes us wonder exactly what is happening with Magi. Well, no stateside release date has been announced at this point but a little research reveals speculation that the picture may see a US debut later this year or early next. In the meantime, check out the trailer in the player below as well as a pair of images from the upcoming Turkish horror film! The trailer is filled with multiple jump cuts, lots of screaming, and plenty of sound distortion. However, in spite of some markings of generic horror fare, it looks to have a certain level of promise. We would love to hear your thoughts on the film. Give us your input in the comments section below!

The film focuses on Marla, a pregnant woman has recently accepted a job as an English teacher in Istanbul. Over time, her sister starts to notice strange goings on and arrives at the (entirely accurate) conclusion that there’s something not right about Marla’s child.
