Head Above Water has a Wicked Sense of Humor [The Rabid Dog’s House]

The Rabid Dog’s House is a recurring feature at Wicked Horror where contributor Justin Steele uncovers hidden gems, lost classics, and overlooked indie offerings with a little bite. Flying solo or with his co-host Zena Dixon, he will discuss an array of topics covering film, literature, and television. Check out the latest installment below. In this episode we’re looking back at 1996’s Head Above Water!

1996’s Head Above Water is directed by Jim Wilson and stars Cameron Diaz, Harvey Keitel, Craig Sheffer, and Billy Zane. Nathalie (Diaz) and George (Keitel) are a newlywed couple spending the summer at an island beach house in Maine. Unfortunately, Nathalie’s troubled past resurfaces in the form of her ex-lover Kent (Zane), and an unfortunate incident will test the trust between the newlyweds. Before long, Nathalie’s recently centered life begins to spiral out of control.

Head Above Water is for horror fans that enjoy dark comedy thriller films with sharp twists and turns. This forgotten 1990’s gem showcases the talent of already established performers Harvey Keitel and Billy Zane while shining a spotlight on Cameron Diaz as a rising star. Head Above Water is a disturbingly fun examination of what can happen when you do not fully trust the people in your life and everything you think you know starts to sink under your feet.
