In a manner befitting the most massive, and well-known, Kaiju in monster history, Godzilla Resurgence has stormed the boards to become the number one movie in Japan. The flick debuted at #1 last weekend, earning nearly $7 million at the box office, across 441 screens, according to figures from Box Office Mojo.
At the time of writing, the movie has earned a reported $8,289,311 in its home country, meaning it’s well on its way to not only matching the $29,930,046 total gross of 2014’s Godzilla, but maybe even outdoing it completely.
