During a Reddit AMA, Don Coscarelli took a moment to address fan questions about the long-discussed follow up to his cult hit Bubba Ho-Tep. Coscarelli seemed very positive about the possibility of getting a sequel off the ground. Although, he didn’t give much indication that its happening anytime soon.
“I would love to do more Bubba Ho-tep and more Elvis,” Coscarelli explained. “That was a film I really enjoyed making. We had it set up at one time with Bruce playing opposite Paul Giamatti as Elvis’s manager Colonel Parker. Unfortunately that one fell apart. Elvis is eternal, though. We’ll get it done one day.”
The original follows an aging resident at a retirement home who is convinced he is Elvis Presley and his roommate who believes he is JFK as they take on a mummy.
The follow up (Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires) has long been discussed but has yet to ever actually grow legs. The film was reportedly slated to go in to production with Ron Perlman taking over the Bruce Campbell role (and Don Coscarelli at the helm again) but even that attempt eventually fizzled.
