With the news that Shudder has picked up US distro rights for epic, J-horror smack-down Sadako Vs Kayako, it was only a matter of time before we were inundated with teasers.
Hot on the heels of that announcement comes our very first clip from the flick. Courtesy of Vulture, the video sees a trio of shop-workers discussing the origins of Sadako’s haunted tape, which has been sold on to an unsuspecting customer. Check it out for yourself after the jump.
Directed by Koji Shiraishi (Grotesque) and starring TV favourite Mizuki Yamamoto, Sadako Vs Kayako sees the titular spirits, from Ju-On and Ringu respectively, take each other on in gloriously spooky fashion. It was released in Japanese theaters back in June.
Sam Raimi’s re-imagining of Ju-On should tide fans over in the meantime, along with further Japanese sequel Ju-On: The Final and the upcoming Rings.
Sadako Vs Kayako was devised after a particularly crafty April Fool’s Day joke that went viral. The flick sees the titular spirits go head-to-head after their stories seemingly become entangled thanks to Yamamoto’s character.
Aside from being one of the most successful horror films of all time, The Ring is big business right now, with Paramount recently revealing their plans to make further sequels to the J-horror crossover hit an annual Halloween tradition.
