Magnet releasing has announced that they are financing and have secured worldwide distribtuion rights to the all female horror anthology film XX. It was previously reported that the Soska Sisters would be contributing to the picture but the press release does not include their names in the talent roster, so as far as we can tell, the talent behind the camera will be comprised of Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body), Mary Harron (American Psycho), Jennifer Lynch (Surveillance), and Jovanka Vuckovic.
Magnet will be working in concert with production company XYZ films. Aside from budgetary and time restrictions, the creators of each segment in the anthology have been given full creative control to make a horror short. The film will be completed some time in 2015.
“Magnet has been the home to the most exciting anthology horror films of the last several years, and we’re very pleased to continue the trend with XX. We’re especially excited about the caliber of filmmakers involved with this anthology, and the fresh approach that it’s taking to the horror genre,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles.“We believe strongly in fostering the best talents around the world at XYZ. We believe different perspectives are what keep storytelling fresh and exciting and hope that XX can help to encourage more female writers and directors to explore the genre world. And we know the ones we have for this first effort are going to absolutely kick ass,” said XYZ’s Todd Brown.
