Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the rights to the Halloween franchise are being shopped around (by The Weinstein Company’s sub label Miramax) to other distributors. At this point, the reason why the rights are possibly being peddled is unclear but we will update this post if we learn more.
If the series were picked up by the like of Warner Brothers/New Line, we could eventually, possibly see the likes of a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael Myers. That’s a long shot, especially considering that Bloody D doesn’t really seem to have a definitive answer on whether or not this is happening and if it is happening, or which studio may be interested in picking up the rights to the franchise.
Last we heard, Dimension was in development in a new film (potentially in 3D) with Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. However, this latest turn of events (if it pans out) could paint a different picture.
The planned new installment was said to be picking up after the events of the second film and would not tie in to Rob Zombie’s reboots.
The synopsis we last saw stated that: Halloween Returns would see a new group of youngsters going up against the masked madman. One of the teens is actually the child of one of the victims from Myers’ initial rampage. The current state of events would see Myers sitting on Death row for his various crimes against humanity. But naturally, he would escape and the aforementioned group of teens would wind up in the madman’s crosshairs!
