Last we had heard, The Strangers 2 was all set for a December 2, 2016 release. Financial woes aside, Relativity confidently added the long-awaited follow up effort to their release calendar for this year. Unfortunately, it appears that they may have spoken too soon. In an interview with Collider, producer Roy Lee revealed that there are some significant concerns in regards to getting the film financed. “We have a script that’s fantastic,” explained Lee, “but they’ve had some financial difficulties so it’s unclear as to whether or not they’ll be able to finance the movie.”
The film has not yet begun principal photography, so without financing, it’s highly unlikely that it will be ready by its planned release date.
As for how the film ties into the original, Lee offered the following: ““It’s connected in the sense of ‘What if you moved into an area where the Strangers lived?’”
Marcel Langenegger was previously on board to direct The Strangers 2, but there has been no confirmation to indicate that is still the case. Last we heard, Ben Ketai (Chosen) would be having a go at the script.
