Pennywise Returns in the Terrifying First Trailer for IT: Chapter Two

IT: Chapter One was one of the coolest and most frightening releases of 2017. The movie was also a massive hit, scaring up a worldwide gross of over $700 million at the box office. The highly-anticipated closing chapter, which arrives this fall, is set to follow in its footsteps in a big way. And now, we finally have a spooky, atmospheric teaser trailer to obsess over, complete with a returning Pennywise in a variety of guises, glimpses of Derry both past and present, and of course the Losers Club, all of whom are grown up and ready to fight once again.

The trailer finds Beverly, here played by Jessica Chastain, who campaigned for the role alongside hordes of hopeful fans, visiting her childhood home. She has tea with a creepy old woman who, it shouldn’t need to be said, has more than a passing connection to Bev’s previous life. The action then swoops over Derry itself 27 years later, where the reunited Losers Club, including Bill Hader as Richie, James McAvoy as Bill, and horror vet James Ransone as Eddie, join forces once again to face off against the dastardly Pennywise.

Suffice to say, I’ll be watching this trailer approximately…five million more times before IT: Chapter Two eventually drops (which feels like a lifetime away). In keeping with its predecessor’s creepy, old-timey tone, the teaser is loaded with rich imagery and quick glimpses of horrifying sights including Pennywise himself lurking in a tunnel (with that music cue signalling something very bad is about to happen). If this first taste of the action is anything to go by, we’re in for a real treat. Hopefully Chapter Two is just as textured, scary, and full of Amblin-esque adventure as Chapter One.

IT: Chapter Two hits theaters September 6, 2019. Stay tuned to the site for more info on the movie in the coming weeks.
