We are sad to report that Jonathan Demme, director of The Silence of the Lambs, has passed way at 73. The director succumbed to an extended battle with cancer and complications related to heart disease.
The Silence of the Lambs is the only horror film to date to take the Oscar for best picture. In addition to Demme’s Oscar wins for Silence of the Lambs, his feature film Philadelphia won Academy Awards for best actor in a leading role and best original song.
Demme also directed the critically acclaimed romantic dramady Something Wild and the 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate.
Demme is survived by his wife, Joanne Howard and their three children. Our thoughts go out to the Demme family at this difficult time.
