There’s scarcely a horror fan alive who doesn’t count Re-Animator as a personal favourite, let alone a stone-cold classic of the genre.
Rumours of sequels, spin-offs and reboots have been around for years but now it seems like a return to Re-Animator may actually be on the cards.
According to That’s Not Current, a new filmed, entitled Re-Animator: Evolution is not only in development but due to hit theatres next year.
The flick is set to star genre stalwarts Lin Shaye and Brad Dourif, but the likes of Jeffrey Combs, Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon don’t appear to be attached (yet).
Re-Animator: Evolution is being directed by Serge Levin (Jack Goes Home), from a script he co-wrote with Johnathon Schaech (TV’s Ray Donovan, the Prom Night remake), who will also feature in the movie himself.
Obviously, nothing is too official as of yet, but the movie does have its own IMDb page, which includes the following synopsis:
Pursued by the police, an ambitious neuroscientist uses a neutrino impulse to bring his dead wife back to life, unintentionally unlocking within her dormant powers that threaten the existence of everyone he knows.
We’ll keep you updated on the story as it develops. It may not be cause for celebration just yet, but anything that involves Herbert West is all right by us (especially if it’s a musical).
