Deadline is reporting that The Purge franchise is going to see a third installment. With the second film grossing over $100 Million at the global box office, Blumhouse, Platinum Dunes and Universal have ordered up another entry in the series.
James DeMonaco, who wrote and directed the first two films is penning the screenplay for the third and is also expected to direct the latest entry in the series. The first two pictures were made for a combined budget of $12 Million and have gone on to bring in over $200 Million worldwide.
The films in The Purge franchise take place in a future where one night a year, all crime is legal. Anyone not lucky enough to be secured behind double reinforced steel doors with a state-of-the-art alarm system and bulletproof glass has the potential for a very bad night.
No plot synopsis or title is available for the film yet but we will keep you apprised as more announcements are made. DeMonaco made the following statement to Deadline:
“I never imagined that The Purge would become the phenomenon it has become and I am thrilled to continue my collaboration with Blumhouse, Sebastien Lemercier, Platinum Dunes and the great team at Universal in building The Purge into a worldwide franchise.”
