We recently reported that the upcoming Saw Legacy had secured a couple of directors in the form of The Spierig Brothers, frequent Lionsgate collaborators who helmed the popular Daybreakers and Ethan Hawke vehicle Predestination.
Now, according to THR, the new flick has secured another key element – one that, according to fans, may actually be more important than who’s behind the camera – in the form of composer Charlie Clouser.
Clouser, who previously worked with Nine Inch Nails, has scored all seven previous Saw installments. A new installment simply would not be the same without his work.
In a statement last Friday, Clouser was enthusiastic about returning: “I’m psyched to be scoring the reinvention of the Saw franchise. I think the Spierig Brothers can deliver a fresh take on the material that will establish a new story line and new characters that can carry the saga into the future”
He also promised a new take on the score, for a new take on the franchise with “a more stark, bold and stripped-down approach that will be more in line with the strong vision that the Spierig Brothers are bringing to the table”.
The script for Saw Legacy is being handled by the writers of the Sorority Row remake and Piranha 3D. Nearly all other details about the project are being kept strictly under wraps at this juncture. The picture is, however, reportedly being executive produced by series creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell so we are assured it’s in good hands.
Saw marked the horror film debut of powerhouse director Wan (The Conjuring) and the first feature collaboration between he and Saw co-writer, and now director in his own right, Whannell.
Saw followed the plight of two men that wake up trapped in an unfamiliar room, restrained by chains – a dead body lies between them. The pair are given a series of specific instructions by which they must abide and tasks they must complete if they are to make it out with their lives intact. Their will to live and resolve will be tested and their survival will ultimately depend on how much they are willing to sacrifice.
According to IMDB, we can expect Saw: Legacy on October 27th, 2017. However, since this date has yet to be confirmed, we remain cautiously optimistic. We’ll confirm once we know for sure.
