Saw: Legacy Snares a Leading Man

Saw - Wan and Whannell

Wicked Horror has just gotten word that Mandela Van Peebles (Roots) has scored a leading role in the upcoming Saw: Legacy. He is the son of actor Mario Van Peebles.

As we recently announced, Laura Vandervoort (Bitten) and Hannah Anderson (Lizzie Borden Took an Axe) will also be toplining the latest installment in the series.

Frequent LionsGate collaborators The Spierig Brothers will be at the helm of the upcoming film. The pair previously directed Daybreakers for the studio.

LionsGate has called upon Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (the writers of Sorority Row and Piranha 3D) to pen the screenplay for the next installment in the series. Nearly all other details about the project are being kept under wraps at this juncture. The picture is being executive produced by series creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell.

Saw marks the horror film debut of powerhouse director James Wan (The Conjuring) and the first feature film collaboration between Wan and Saw co-writer Leigh Whannell.

Saw follows the plight of two men that wake up trapped in an unfamiliar room, restrained by chains – a dead body lies between them. The pair are given a series of specific instructions by which they must abide and tasks they must complete if they are to make it out with their lives intact. Their will to live and resolve will be tested and their survival will ultimately depend on how much they are willing to sacrifice.
