Scary Stories Movie Moving Full Steam Ahead, Adds Two New Writers

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

The feature film adaptation based on Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark trilogy has just added two very in demand screenwriters. According to Deadline, Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman (The Lego Movie) have just been announced as part of the project. The film is being developed in concert with auteur director Guillermo del Toro (who is also expected to direct).

Del Toro previously worked with the Hagemans on the Netflix series Trollhunters. The earliest draft of the script was penned by Saw franchise alumni Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, with John August (Big Fish) taking a stab at a later draft. In an interview with Crave, August previously revealed that the iconic illustrations from the books will work into the storyline of the film in some way.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was released in 1981, with More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark following in 1984 and Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones hitting shelves in 1991. The series has sold a collective total of more than 7 Million copies globally.

No targeted release date or casting information has been made available to us at this juncture but stay tuned for more updates as they are announced!
