Tobe Hooper has Passed Away at 74

Tobe Hooper

I can’t believe I’m writing these words: Legendary horror director Tobe Hooper has died at 74. As of this posting, the circumstances of Hooper’s passing are not known.

As any horror fan can tell you, Hooper was a legendary director, responsible for such classics as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Poltergeist. Hooper was also at the helm of the 1979 made-for-TV movie Salem’s LotLifeforce, Invaders from Mars, and the criminally underrated Toolbox Murders (2004).

There are simply no words to convey how much of an impact Tobe Hooper had on not only the horror genre but the world of film. Our thoughts go out to his family at this trying time.

Tobe Hooper was born in Austin Texas. He worked as a college professor prior to trying his hand at filmmaking. Hooper is survived by his two sons.
