Wal-Mart is at it Again, Changes Title of Deathgasm

deathgasm - Zena’s Top Five Horror Films of 2015

I don’t even know why this surprises me anymore, but it does and it also pisses me off. The folks at Wal-Mart have imposed yet another title change to a film whose moniker they found unsavory. Head past the jump to learn what Deathgasm has been renamed.

Director Jason Lei Howden drew our attention to this nonsense on Twitter. The film will officially be known as Heavy Metal Apocalypse at Wal-Mart stores. You can see a look at the alternate branding and cover art below. You can check out our review of Deathgasm right here.

This isn’t the first and certainly won’t be the last time Wal-Mart has imposed unnecessary censorship. Let’s not forget Biggest Spider, Bloodsucking Bosses, or A Holiday Horror Story.

Deathgasm stars Milo Cawthorne, and James Blake. It is currently available on DVD and Blu-ray. Just don’t get your copy at Wal-Mart. However, if you must, you can take some solace in the fact that the film itself has reportedly not been censored.

“High school is truly hell in Deathgasm. Metal-thrashing Brodie (Milo Cawthorne, Blood Punch) is an outcast in a sea of jocks and cheerleaders in a suburban wasteland until he meets a kindred spirit in fellow metalhead Zakk (James Blake). After starting their own band, Brodie and Zakk’s come upon a mysterious piece of sheet music said to grant ultimate power to whoever plays it. But the music also summons an ancient evil entity known as Aeloth The Blind One, which threatens to tear apart existence itself. The boys’ classmates and family become inhabited by demonic forces, tearing out their own eyes and turning into psychotic murderers … and that’s only the beginning! It’s up to Brodie, Zakk and their group of friends to stop a force of pure evil from devouring all of mankind.”
