I got a press release from Paramount last night with no plot description and not a lot of information other than a release date and a trailer. The film is called 10 Cloverfield Lane. The timing was really curious. The press release wasn’t sent out until 12 Midnight. And there was no confirmation as to whether this will be the proper sequel to Cloverfield that fans have been clamoring for or if it will be some sort of spinoff. I got the impression that it may be a sequel about the aftermath and the damage that occurred in the first film. But I could be wrong. You can check it out for yourself below and make up your own mind.
One thing I did notice about this J.J. Abrams produced follow up effort is that it is not done in the found footage style, so that was nice to see. One of my biggest complaints about Cloverfield was the excessive use of shaky cam footage.
This follow up is directed by Dan Trachtenberg in his feature film directorial debut and stars John Goodman (Red State), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Final Destination 3), and John Gallagher Jr. (Jonah Hex). The film will see a nationwide release in both conventional theatres and IMAX March 11, 2016.
