Last month, we announced that World War Z 2 had been delayed indefinitely and we now have an update on that. In a recent conversation with Collider, World War Z 2 producer David Ellison confirmed that the project is still in the works and that he is hopeful David Fincher (Se7en) will be at the helm.
Ellison told the site: “There’s a script that we’re incredibly happy with, and it’s just getting a couple of key deals closed… We hope [David Fincher] makes the movie.“
Production was originally planned to commence early this year but following the announcement that the project had been delayed, we don’t have a targeted start date for production or a planned release date.
Juan Antonio Bayona was previously set to helm the project but was recently tapped to direct the follow up to Jurassic World, instead.
Last we heard, Steven Knight (Eastern Promises) had been tapped to script the film. Plot details are scarce at this point, other than that the film will take place in the midst of a zombie outbreak and Pitt will reprise his role as Gerry Lane. The project’s IMDb page lists Cristian Lazar as the only other cast member. His role is credited as ‘French Soldier’.
