Buried Alive Film Festival Returns To Unearth A Fresh Batch Of Indie Horror 3/31-4/3

Buried Alive Film Festival 2022

The Buried Alive Film Festival is back and in person for 2022, bringing the best in indie horror to Atlanta’s 7 Stages Theatre from March 31st to April 3rd. The 15th edition of the festival is a carefully curated mix of repertory screenings, short films and features chosen by a panel of judges deeply invested in both genre fandom and the Atlanta film scene.

Buried Alive Film Festival 2022 Features

One of the most unique aspects of the festival is the showcase for participants in the 2022 Sinema Challenge. Local filmmakers are assigned a horror subgenre and subject, then tasked with making a film with those themes in just 13 days. It’s inventive and insane in the way that only all heart and minimal resources regional filmmaking can be. You can only view these films at the Buried Alive Film Festival, as they were created specifically for the fest.

The features slate is admirably eclectic. Opening night sees the US premiere of Belgian found footage entry Duyster, where teen filmmakers go in search of the true story behind the tales of a 17th century executioner. Also screening is What Happens Next Will Scare You, the horror comedy from WNUF Halloween Special director Chris LaMartina.

Unearthed Films offers a brand new restoration of Calamity Of Snakes, a 1982 Hong Kong Cat III film that brings the “nature run amok” subgenre to newly slithering heights of insanity. For those who haven’t had their fill of snake accented cult classics, there will be a late night showing of Robert Rodriguez favorite From Dusk Till Dawn.

Short, but no less sweet, each day offers a themed block of short films from artists around the world. DIY maverick Brian Lonano gets a solo showcase in the aptly named Lonanothan.

Tickets are on sale now, for both individual showings and an all weekend/all access pass. More information on the venue, attendee requirements, and the full festival schedule can be found here.
