We have just learned that Kevin Bacon has expressed interest in playing Freddy Krueger in a redux of A Nightmare on Elm Street. It’s important to mention that (as far as anyone knows) Bacon is not currently in consideration for the role and that there has been no movement on the planned re-remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street in the last year. But Bacon did seem to indicate on Twitter that he would be interested in taking on the role if the opportunity presented itself.
When Bettie Toxic Tweeted, “If A Nightmare on Elm Street gets rebooted again, can we please somehow get @KevinBacon as Freddy? I think he’d be fantastic” Bacon responded enthusiastically, saying, “I like the way you think, Bettie.”
I think (if Robert Englund isn’t an option and it doesn’t seem like he is) that Bacon just might be a great choice to fill his shoes. It’s unlikely that we’ll get to see that happen but it would certainly be interesting.
The last we reported, there was a project in development that would reboot the franchise but would not be a sequel to the previous remake.
David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) is supposed to be scripting the latest reboot and Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada, and Dave Neustadter are expected to executive produce the project for New Line. It is still unknown who will be at the helm of the re-remake. Also unknown is if the project is stuck in development hell or being actively pursued off the radar.
As you surely know, the 1984 original sees serial killer Freddy Krueger stalking teenagers in their dreams to claim revenge on their parents who burned him alive years before.
You can be sure that we will continue to cover this forthcoming reboot as more news if or when it is announced. Stay tuned to the site in the coming months for the latest in horror news.
