Starry Eyes Directors Board Mama Sequel

The poster for Andy Muschietti's MAMA.

Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch (who helmed the exceptional Cronenbergian body horror film Starry Eyes) are near closing a deal to rewrite and direct a sequel to Andy Muschietti’s Mama. Muschietti adapted the picture from his short film of the same name. The first installment was executive produced by Guillermo del Toro but the THR article that broke news of the sequel did not list del Toro as being attached to the follow up effort in any capacity.

The duo is also attached to direct Exorcism Diaries for LionsGate affiliate Summit Entertainment. They rewrote the script for that project as well.

No word just yet on casting, when the film will begin lensing, or a targeted release date. But we will certainly keep you apprised in regard to this developing project as well as the latest in horror news from around the world! Are you ready for a sequel to Mama? What do you think about Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch directing? Let us know in the comments space provided!

Mama followed the adventures of two orphaned children who were left to fend for themselves in the woods for several years. When they were eventually adopted by relatives, the girls claimed to see a ghostly entity they called Mama.
