Eli Roth’s The Green Inferno is gearing up for a home video release that will see the film made available as a digital download in advance of the Christmas holiday (on December 22nd) and on DVD and Blu-ray January 5th.
In terms of bonus features, the home video release will include an audio commentary track with Eli Roth, producer Nicolás López, and stars Lorenza Izzo, Aaron Burns, Kirby Bliss Blanton, and Daryl Sabara. I would have really liked to have seen a featurette chronicling the film’s troubled road to the big screen but perhaps that will be discussed on the commentary track.
As we previously reported, The Green Inferno was pulled from Worldview Entertainment’s release calendar due to an issue with their former CEO’s commitment to provide $3.7 million for Prints and Advertising. Without that funding in place, the fate of The Green Inferno was left hanging in the balance for a very long time. The project was eventually rescued by Jason Blum and his team ay Blumhouse.
The Green Inferno marks Eli Roth’s first feature film directorial effort since Hostel Part II. It sees a group of friends opting to travel across the world in an attempt to ‘Save the Amazon’. This is a decision they come to regret when they are captured and tortured by a tribe of flesh hungry cannibals.
