Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures have officially set a release date for their holiday-themed horror film Krampus. It will be arriving in theaters just in time for Christmas 2015, with a release date slated for November of that year. The upcoming feature is helmed by cult icon director Michael Dougherty and co-written by Todd Casey, Zach Shields, and Dougherty. Jon Jashni, Thomas Tull, and Alex Garcia will serve as producers on the upcoming project.
When the film was first announced, Dougherty said the following to Deadline: “The dark ancient origins of our holidays have always fascinated me,” Dougherty said. “I’ve been drawing twisted Christmas cards for well over a decade so it only made sense to bring some of that morbid yuletide fun to the big screen, and Krampus was the perfect mythology to do that. Christmas has been invading Halloween for far too long. It’s time to return the favor.”
The only plot details released at this point describe the film as a feature about the pagan demon that kidnaps naughty children and provides punishment at Christmas Time. It’s surprising to see a release date announced before the core cast has even been revealed but it’s exciting nonetheless. I am a fan of holiday themed horror films and better yet, this one features an antagonist that punishes naughty children.
IMDb Pro lists the project as still in the script stage, so no stills from the film are available at this point. Pictured above are some sketches of the Krampus legend.
