Jessabelle finds its main character Jessie returning to her Louisiana hometown to take refuge in her father’s mansion. Her decision to return home results from a devastating accident that claimed the life of Jessie’s fiancé. Her return will allow Jessie to recuperate and mourn her recent loss. She quickly discover that it isn’t just the locals that are happy to see her return. There is a wicked wraith that has been lying in wait for her and the spirit has no intention of letting Jessie leave alive.
The upcoming horror film Jessabelle is written by Robert Ben Garant (Hell Baby) and directed by Kevin Greutert (Saw 3D). It stars Sarah Snook (These Final Hours) as Jessie and Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) as Preston, Jessie’s high school boyfriend.
The film was shot in Wilmington County, North Carolina. It was originally titled Ghosts but was later retitled Jessabelle. The film was originally slated for release in January 2014, then August 2014, but LionsGate finally settled on a November 2014 release.
This supernatural thriller has a talented creative team behind it and a cast of up and comers. So it could be worth a look. However, the PG-13 classification and the generic sounding plotline have me a bit leery as to if the film will do anything to rise above the countless titles of similar premise released each year. Only time will tell with this one. But I’m trying to keep an open mind.
