Rec 4: Apocalypse is a sequel to the second film in the Rec franchise. It picks up immediately after the events of Rec 2. Manuela Velasco (Rec 2) will play Angela once again in this installment. Rec 4 finds Angela, her cameraman, and the firemen escaping the building alive. But unbeknownst to Angela’s companions, she has been infected with the nasty virus that was introduced in the first film.
Jaume Balagueró, who helmed the first two Rec films will return to direct this fourth and final entry in the series. Like the third film in the franchise, Rec 4: Apocalypse will abandon the ‘found footage’ aesthetic in favor of the more traditional style of camerawork.
Rec 4: Apocalypse will have the same approximate budget as the previous films. Director Jaume Balagueró explained in an interview with Fangoria that although the film’s name suggests a grand apocalyptic scheme, it will still be confined to very few shooting locations and maintain the confined atmosphere of the previous films.
Returning actress Manuela Velasco will be joined in her quest by Héctor Colomé as Dr. Ricarte, Paco Manzanedo as Guzmán, and María Alfonsa Rosso as Anciana.
A U.S. release date has not yet been announced for Rec 4: Apocalypse. But the film will premiere in Spain October 31, 2014. As always, we will keep you apprised as to any developments regarding a stateside distribution deal.
