Sin City: A Dame to Kill for will be comprised of four core segments, several of which are from Frank Miller’s graphic novel A Dame to Kill for and one which is pulled from the Booze, Broads, and Bullets book in the Sin City series. Some reports have suggested there will also be smaller segments created exclusively for this second installment. The film has been described as both a prequel and a sequel to the original film.
Sin City: A Dame to Kill for is scripted by Frank Miller who based the screenplay on his graphic novels and is co-directed by Miller and frequent Quentin Tarantino collaborator Robert Rodriguez. The film will feature a cast of returning characters from the previous film as well as several fresh faces. Sin City: A Dame to Kill for will offer appearances from Bruce Willis, Christopher Meloni, Mickey Rourke, Jamie King, Clive Owen, Jessica Alba and several other big names.
The film has been in development since shortly after the release of the first film. The Weinstein Company has been cited as the main reason the sequel has taken so long to materialize. Sin City: A Dame to Kill for was originally set for an October 4, 2013 release but was later pushed back nearly a year to an August 22, 2014 release.
As a fan of the first film, I have been anxiously anticipating the release of this second installment. I am happy to see that Rodriguez and Miller have been able to persevere in spite of studio-created red tape. I am anxious to see if this film mirrors the same aesthetic and dark tone as the original.
