It’s been a little while since we had any tangible news on the upcoming Jeepers Creepers sequel, Jeepers Creepers 3. But it appears that things are definitely moving on that front (finally).
According to Bloody Disgusting, filming began on the flick this week (February 20, to be exact) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
BD also confirmed previous reports that the story will focus on returning star Gina Phillips’ Trish this time around.
We also know that The Creeper’s truck, with the infamous BEATNGU license plate, will be heavily featured in the latest installment.
Jeepers Creepers 3 hasn’t had an easy ride, with its production apparently started and stalled at virtually every opportunity. About a year ago, a Canadian casting agency actually pulled down a casting notice after concern about director Victor Salva’s past arose.
One fan later reached out to Stan Spry (one of the film’s producers) on Twitter to see if the project had been nixed altogether. Spry reported that they were seeking domestic distribution for the film and that the picture was still very much alive.
Regardless, Salva is returning to write and direct, with actors Jonathan Breck (The Creeper), Phillips and Brandon Smith (Sergeant Tubbs) all expected to return.
In a previous statement, director Victor Salva offered the following insight:
What will go before cameras as Jeepers Creepers 3 is a new and terrifying chapter from the Jeepers universe. We are bringing back the Creeper’s truck, and will be addressing the big questions about The Creeper: what it is, where it came from and why it does what it does
Last we had heard, Francis Ford Coppola (who produced the first two) had also signed on to co-produce the threequel with Odyssey Media, with The Cartel and Kirk D’Amico on board to executive produce.
The premise is as follows:
Trish Jenner is now a mother of a teenage son named Darry, named after the brother she lost 23 years ago. Trish has a recurring nightmare where her son suffers the same fate as her brother did, killed by the Creeper. Determined to prevent this from happening, Trish, who is now a rich and powerful woman, sets out on a final quest with Jack Taggart Sr. and Jr. to end the Creeper’s reign of terror once and for all. The Creeper fights back in gory glory as its enemies grow closer than ever before to learning the secret of its dark origins
The two previous films collectively grossed over $120 million at the global box office, with the first grossing $60 mill alone off a $10 budget.
