David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2) has been brought on board to pen the latest installment in The Conjuring franchise, Deadline reports. The outlet is also speculating that James Wan likely will not return to direct the threequel. However, it’s important to note that Wan wasn’t expected to direct the second film but came on board after all.
Conjuring cinematic universe producer Peter Safran previously announced that the third film will diversify from the first two, in that it will not be a haunted house tale.
James Wan had previously reported that the threequel would be set in the ’80s but no concrete details beyond that have emerged at this juncture.
The Conjuring franchise has been a big moneymaker for Newline. Both Conjuring films and the first installment in the Annabelle series have done huge numbers. So, we fully expect to see more stories from that universe going into production.
