We have been covering What We Do in the Shadows here at Wicked Horror for some time now. We have seen a series of new clips, one sheet debuts, and more. And though we revealed that the film has been picked up for distribution it wasn’t until today that we are finally able to share an official release date announcement with you.
The film will theatrically released in New York and Los Angeles beginning February 13. That will be succeeded by an expansion into other markets, including San Francisco, Philadelphia, Boston, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. a week later on February 20. Then we will begin to see a national rollout strategy throughout February and March which will see new cities being added to the roster weekly.
What We Do in the Shadows was recently acquired for distribution via a three way partnership between The Orchard, Unison Films, and Funny or Die. It was always the plan for the trio to collaborate on a multi platform release but it’s a pleasant surprise to see the film get such a large scale release.
What We Do in the Shadows has garnered rave reviews and won several awards via its run on the festival circuit and currently holds and ‘fresh’ rating on the aggregate review site Rotten Tomatoes.
The film is written and directed by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi who previously collaborated on the HBO series Flight of the Conchords. Waititi and Clement both have starring roles in the film as well.
The upcoming mockumentary will follow three vampires who live together as roommates. The picture will chronicle their day-to-day struggles as they cope with everyday problems, like paying rent or quarreling over household chores, as well as tackle more unique issues like where to find human blood.
