Surprisingly (or perhaps not so surprisingly) another remake is in the works for the A Nightmare on Elm Street series. To be clear, this is not a sequel to the 2010 remake. This is an unrelated series reboot just five years after the least less than successful attempt to reimagine the franchise hit theaters. This seems to be an emerging trend in horror, with the Halloween, Friday the 13th, and TCM franchises all having reboots or sequels in the works that do not necessarily relate to previous reboots or the original franchises.
Tracking Board reports that David Leslie Johnson (Orphan) will be scripting the latest reboot and Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada, and Dave Neustadter will executive produce the project for New Line. It is still unknown who will be at the helm of the planned remake. Also not known is who will take on the role of Freddy Krueger. Jackie Earl Haley attempted to fill Robert Englund’s shoes in the 2010 remake but didn’t quite resonate with fans or critics.
Script to Pieces: Peter Jackson’s Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Lover
As you surely know, the 1984 original sees serial killer Freddy Krueger stalking teenagers in their dreams to claim revenge on their parents who burned him alive years before.
You can be sure that we will continue to cover this forthcoming reboot as more news is announced. Stay tuned to the site in the coming months for the latest on this project as it breaks.
