The Weinstein Company’s genre film banner Dimension Films reached out today to share the news that they have picked up global distribution rights to the horror-thriller The Bye Bye Man. The picture will be brought to life from a script penned by Jonathan Penner (Let the Devil Wear Black). Penner adapted the screenplay from a short story by Robert Damon Schneck. The short story focuses on the terrifying exploits of a group of Wisconsin college students in the ’90s. Penner’s wife Stacy Title (Hood of Horror) has been tapped to direct the upcoming feature.

Frequent Weinstein Company collaborator Trevor Macy will produce through his Intrepid Pictures banner. Marc D. Evans and David Prior will serve as executive producers on the project.

“There are only a few truly scary and iconic characters within this genre and we think the Bye Bye Man has the potential to be the next one.  Trevor and Stacy will be great partners in bringing this fantastic and terrifying script to the screen,” said Matthew Signer, EVP of Production and Creative Affairs for TWC-Dimension.

As far as additional plot details or any other information about the film, it is being closely guarded at this point. Expect us to keep you in the loop as more details about the project are revealed.
